Chocolate Cake!

This is my proudest baking moment yet, a scrummy chocolate cake (recipe courtesy of The Primrose Bakery) for Vanessa's 30th, decorated with roses, and bunting to match the actual bunting.

(Who'd have thought it would be so much fun making tiny bunting for a cake!)

Being Human

After Series 2 of Misfits finished with the stonking Christmas Special in December, I've abandoned the supernatural and fallen back on the good old McKinley High Glee club to keep me entertained through these dark, lonely nights.

But Sunday sees the return of Being Human so we'll finally get to find out what evil plans Herrick has got up his sleeve.

In a moment of boredom last week I googled "sausage dog".

I am in love.

Good for nothing boyfriends 窝囊废

Rachel has had trouble keeping Finn under control in Episode 2 of Glee. She tried her best to make him feel bad about anything that made him feel happy, so that she was the only thing to bring any joy to his life and he therefore wouldn't leave her. But in classic US sitcom style, the moral of the story was not to stifle his individuality, but to promote the idea of freedom and equality as the basis for a lasting relationship.

If you ask Chinese Girlfriend though, she just wasn't being strict enough....

Trip to Pompey

Had a nice evening out in Portsmouth on Saturday for mum's birthday.
Before we met the family, Jonathan and I stumbled across a bookshop which was closing down. My initial excitement was replaced with a slight disappointment as we were faced with shelf after shelf of sci-fi and murder mysteries. But then we found a little room off to the side absolutely jam packed full of literature.

It was amazing. Although tempted to take advantage of the prices we came away with less than 10 novels between us. All for a very good price indeed.

Spent the rest of the afternoon drinking ale and watching Jonathan try desperately to make friends with huge puppies.

Cat Cafe

Lately, Jonathan has been thinking about when he will be able to get a cat, and I've been thinking about when I will be able to go to Japan.

It made me think of this sweet collection of photos taken by Vampire Weekend's Ezra Koenig, which was published in the Guardian last year, including one of this Cat Cafe he visited in Tokyo.

This is the beautiful dress Jonathan got me for Christmas.

It's so pretty, and I have received no end of compliments for it!

Happy New Year!!

Happy New Year, welcome one and all to 2011.
We celebrated indoors this year; chatting and eating mince pies and drinking cocktails and champagne.
