More Birthday Cake

Little sis dug out this picture of our birthday cakes when she was 2 and I was 5.
Check out the cool carousel that mum made me, surrounded by chocolate fingers. Yum!

Peppermint tea

It's Nina's Birthday today, I made her some tea bags with peppermint taken from Christopher's garden!

Update: I've jotted down how to make them here.

A wonderful birthday picnic

My brilliant friends came for an indoor picnic last Sunday and baked cakes to help me celebrate my birthday. What more could a girl want...?

Steve's amazing free range Yorkshire Custard Tart from a heritage recipe

Rachael and her pretty ginger fairy cakes

Bettina's tastiest lemon drizzle cake

The winner! Doro's strawberry sponge packed with local and free range ingredients

A delicious chocolate sponge from the Lift Share Collective

The most beautiful Eton mess by Alice and Paul

...and William and Big Guns tried to enter these, but I know Angel Food Bakery Cupcakes when I see them....

An update from the allotment

This really is the best time of year on the allotment. The plot looks so colourful and there is an abundance of salad leaves, chard and spinach to be eaten as well as the odd spring onion, beetroot and lots and lots of potatoes!

(Helen still has strawberries on her plot next to mine!)

Justine Smith Poppies

I came across this beautiful paper cut sculpture this morning by the very talented Justine Smith.

Beautiful poppies made of bank notes.

swept away

I've just discovered these beautiful cinemagraphs by the incredibly talented Jamie at From me to you.

Aren't they just stunning?

The tumblr feed is full of beautiful moving pictures of fashion and street scenes in New York. And even a post about their day out at the Dogfish Brewery.

After all this time, we have finally caught up with the wizarding world!

Take away

As if I didn't love Murasaki enough...

This is how they made sure we didn't get our chicken gyoza and Aubergine Miso Yaki mixed up.

Erste Blueme!

Meine Erste Blueme ist endlich erschienen.

Und passender weise, heisst die Sorte "Marienkaefer"

Elderflower Cocktail

I've been experimenting with the elderflower cordial and trying to find the best recipe.

I think I've invented one of the tastiest cocktails ever, but can't think of a name. Suggestions on a postcard please...

1 part Vodka
1 part Gin
2 parts Elderflower
1 part Cranberry

Shake well over ice.

Just perfect for a boozy Monday evening, or in fact, any day of the week.

Also, check out a delicious Elderflower cordial recipe (and dreamy pictures) on design sponge here.

Marseille remembered

Talking to a friend about Marseille this afternoon reminded me that I never got round to linking to the video Jonathan made in Cours Julien.

My favourite bit is the proud look as the piano player glances at the boys rapping.

And here is Jonathan's review, posted back in March, where he highlights some of the fantastic places we went to and his colourful pictures of the fish market.

Barbecue Weather

The weather's been really nice each Monday for the past couple of weeks. So we finally decided that although not the best day of the week for drinking and staying out late, we would just have a barbecue and a couple of drinks anyway.

Everyone else in Brighton seemed to have had the same idea...

Grayson Perry

Spent a pleasant weekend in Manchester, dominated by second hand shops and transvestites.

I'm pinching Jonathan's lovely instagram of the Grayson Perry exhibition at the Manchester Art Gallery.
